The 2014 Fungi Bioblitz was a public-supported macrofungi sampling effort, headquartered at Twin Creeks Science and Education Center on July 12, 2014.  Six groups of citizen-scientists and mycologists went to 6 different areas in the park on Saturday the 12th to spend a couple of hours collecting and bagging samples of mostly mushrooms, the fruiting bodies of many species of Fungi.  The collectors also made observations of habitat and associated trees surrounding the Fungi in the field.  The following are the 6 areas that were sampled:  Indian Gap area of the Appalachian Trail, near the trailhead of Chimney Tops Trail, Grapeyard Ridge Trailhead near Greenbrier, Jakes Creek Trail near Elkmont, Crooked Creek and Loop trails in the Cades Cove area, and Trillium Gap trail area near the Motor Nature Trail uphill from Gatlinburg.

Since the scientists (Mycologists) arrived days before the bioblitz, the also made field collections at Big Creek, Greenbrier's Whaley Cemetary area, and Rough Creek Trail (Cataloochee Creek watershed).

After the collections were made, the collectors returned to Twin Creeks and the samples were identified by the Mycologists, most of whom were from Illinois.  The team of mycologists were lead by Dr. Andrew Miller, Dr. Andrew Methven, and Dr. Ed Lickey.
